Fragment 10 — The Sea is Taking Over
There comes a time when the engines stop.
Momentum still carries us, heavy and silent.
Then the sea takes over.
I once worked at sea, where silence has a sound.
When the engines cut, it isn’t peace at first — it’s vastness.
Intimidating. Maybe even terrifying if I’m honest.
A loneliness even your closest shipmates can’t help you with.
After a while, I began to sense I wasn’t alone.
Every night I followed the same stars —
or perhaps they were following me.
Few names remain from those short but intense years in the shipping industry,
but Corvus stays with me — a sail-shaped constellation,
The Crow,
offering a small, reassuring nod each night on watch.
I didn’t realise it then,
but it started to feel more like home than home.
🌿
The sea takes over.
Let it.
🪷
Today’s practice
Close your eyes.
Feel the tide within — the slow pull of breath, the body rising and falling.
Let it move you without command. 🌿
Yes the terror. Yes the peace. No thing and everything.
Let it.
Close your eyes.
Feel the tide within — the slow pull of breath, the body rising and falling.
Let it move you without command. 🌿
Yes the terror. Yes the peace. No thing and everything.
Let it.
